I wish to thank you very much indeed for an excellent nights 'calling' at the Legion Club on Saturday.
Everyone including myself thoroughly enjoyed the evening and I think they will forever be trying to work out the 'oyster'.
Those who were unable to get upon the floor for health reasons said they had just as much fun watching the dancers get into and out of tangles and that they hadn't laughed so much in ages."

Extract from "The Island" (The newsletter for International Students at the University of Portsmouth - Jan 2003)tudents at the University of Portsmouth

"The evening proved to be an extremely well attended event with about 300 students and staff members out to enjoy the festivities.....

The main part of the evening was centred on a barndance, music and caller courtesy of the brilliant band ‘Mrs Widgerly’s Lodger’ – caller Rob Haskell. As is often the case with barn dances, we were lulled into a false sense of security with dances starting fairly simply and at an easy pace. The evening progressed and so did the complexity and speed of the dances presented to us. I am sure I wasn’t the only one that either went the wrong way or ended up without a partner!"
